SDL Search Partners recently successfully filled a finance recruiting exclusive search for a Finance Manager / Senior Finance Manager role – reporting to the SVP of Finance for a global biotech research company.

 

Our client came to SDL after prior experience using larger staffing firms. The CFO wanted a more hands-on recruitment partner, with a deep understanding of finance recruitment and a strong network in the Boston area.

 

Our recruiting team met with the CFO and learned about his current team structure, the challenges facing the finance function, and the personality and skillset needed to succeed in Senior Finance Manager role.

 

One of the difficulties the hiring team faced was finding a candidate who could own the full P&L and budgeting process for the organization’s largest business unit. The finance leader would sit on-site and would be the sole FP&A leader, acting as a strategic business partner for the scientific and R&D leadership team.

 

SDL Recruiters worked through their existing network of candidates and put forward six strong candidates for the interview process. The ideal candidate ended up being a Finance leader our recruiter had known for several years.

 

The Senior Finance Manager had the confidence to succeed in an autonomous role from his 15 years of finance experience. The candidate also had a strong acumen for systems, having led multiple system implementations for finance teams at his previous companies. Most importantly, he had the intangibles the company was looking for – he was a conscientious & thoughtful finance leader. He viewed his role as a true finance business partner and prided himself on building strong relationships cross-functionally throughout the organization.

 

At the end of the process, the CFO was excited to find someone with such a depth of experience and the right personality fit for the team, without having to change their targeted compensation range. The candidate had been passively searching for over six months for an organization with stability and a strong leadership team and was excited to join such a well-established company.

 

Total search time from engagement to fill was 4.5 weeks.
